Laurence graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2013. He started work straight away as a large animal vet in a mixed practice in South West Wales for 2 years. He visited New Zealand as a teenager for six months and liked it so much he decided to return. He has been a part of our Greymouth practice since December 2015. Laurence enjoys being out on farms and exploring the local area.

Ciara graduated from the Royal Vet College in 2011 and came to Greymouth to work at Animal Antics. She has since also practiced in Canada and Ireland, before returning to work for West Coast Vets in 2016. Ciara works in the Greymouth clinic and has special interests in ultrasonography and companion animal medicine. She is also the proud owner of our lovely clinic dog “Mac”.

Amber qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2005.  She arrived on the Coast in 2006 and has been serving the animals of the West Coast ever since.  At work she runs the companion animal team and has a particular interest in small animal surgery and her work with the local SPCA.  At home she is kept busy with two young daughters, a husband and three cats. She currently works four days a week in the Greymouth clinic.

Gwen graduated from Washington State University in 2017 and took a few months off to travel before starting at the Greymouth clinic in 2018. Passionate about a wide variety of species, you'll find her on the small animal side working with everything from birds to reptiles to mammals. When she's not working at the clinic, you're liable to find her at the local movie theatre or one of the various restaurants around town. Gwen's goal is to have the most spoiled rabbits on the Coast, although she's happy to see quite a few of her clients giving her stiff competition in that regard!

Upon completing her vet degree in Utrecht in the Netherlands, Marjan worked for four years over there. In 2003 she emigrated to New Zealand, commencing work in Murchison. After a dairy season she moved a bit southwards and she has resided in this beautiful part of the country ever since. Marjan is passionate about trying to improve overall performance on farm and interested in all things related to ruminants. Preventing diseases and/or problems through nutrition are her specialty. Currently Marjan is the only member of the NZARN (New Zealand Association of Ruminant Nutritionists) on the West Coast. Most often you can find her on farms working with cows, sheep and other farm animals. But small animals are not strange to her either! Outside work she enjoys the outdoors (tramping, mountain biking, sailing, fishing) with her other half Jim and two daughters

Simon joined West Coast Vets at the start of October 2014. Simon and his family have moved over the hill from Darfield Canterbury, where for ten years they owned and managed the Darfield Vet Centre. Simon is married to Tara and they have two teenage children Ruby and Sam. Simon and Gary were classmates at Massey University both graduating in 1991. Since then he has worked predominantly in Canterbury since graduating but also spent time working overseas in the UK and three years in his hometown of Taupo. Simon is a General Practitioner but with a definite focus on production animals that is dairy, sheep, beef and deer. He is also an experienced orthopaedic surgeon and small animal vet having treated all manner of furry critters in the UK, and he isn’t averse to seeing the odd horse, alpaca or pig if required. The outdoors have always been a big part of Simon’s life, he is a mad keen mountain biker and skier and semi- retired kitesurfer/windsurfer/climber. He loves doing stuff with his family and is a keen home handyman, not averse to a bit of a landscaping at home or bike track grafting. Active holidays are his thing.

Nadine completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science in November 2016 and started working at West Coast Vets in Greymouth in January 2017. She grew up on a farm in the Grey Valley before making the move to Palmerston North to study. She is a large animal vet with interests in dairy and deer. Nadine enjoys getting involved in her local community events, playing netball, and getting out and about with her dog exploring our many tracks and trails.

Minnie graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2015. She locumed on the coast in early 2019 and returned in 2021 as a permanent member of staff. She prefers companion animal work, especially feline medicine. Outside of work Minnie enjoys tramping, gardening and reading.

Originally from Christchurch Troy couldn’t wait to get back to the beautiful south after spending 5 yrs studying in Palmerston North. He is an enthusiastic mixed animal vet, with a dairy focus. Out of work Troy enjoys running, badminton and heading into the mountains for tramping.

TJ joined the crew at West Coast Vets in April 2020 as a Veterinary Nurse. Her professional working and educational background include Zoo Keeping, Veterinary Nursing, Business Management and Photojournalism. Originally from Australia, TJ moved to Hokitika in 2017 with her husband and teenage boys. Spending time with her clan, getting out for a good tramp, cooking great food, running, writing or reading generally take up most of her time outside of work.

Aubyn first came to West Coast Vets as a student vet nurse in 2016. Since joining the team she has covered farm service & nursing roles within the clinic. In October 2020 she headed off on maternity leave and soon after welcomed her daughter, Kahlo into the world. Aubyn has always dreamed of working with animals so having the opportunity to care for all of your pets really is a dream come true for her. Outside of work you can find Aubyn baking, enjoying nature and spending time with her friends and family - which also includes her cat, George and 3 mini lop bunnies, Cashew, Lennon & Bowie.

Bonnie joined the team at West Coast Vets Hokitika in 2019, after completing her NZ Certificate in Animal Technology (level 5) (Veterinary Nursing Assistant). She has also recently completed the NZ Diploma in Veterinary Nursing with Otago Polytechnic through distance learning. She has always lived on the West Coast and loves the lifestyle that comes with it. Outside of work she enjoys spending time at the beach, riding her horse 'Rewa' and looking after her cat 'Pika'.

Georgia is a Greymouth local, and an active member of the Cobcen Hockey Team. Outside of work she enjoys the outdoors, hockey, horse riding and looking after her pets Milly, Ace, Jessie & Garfield.

Julie has been with West Coast Vets Hokitika since 2017 as a part time receptionist, having returned to the coast from Dunedin where she was working as a Retail & Customer Services Manager for a veterinary practice. Prior to this Julie was the National Sales Manager for a small animal supply company based in Auckland. She has a background in Veterinary Nursing. In her spare time she enjoys taking her daughter to pony club and walking her dog “Delta” along the beach and bush tracks.

Alicia grew up on a farm on the Coast and went farming as a relief milker in the time after school, she continued farming once finished school and was in the industry for 3 years. While working Alicia completed her National Certificate in Agriculture, Cattle Health and Husbandry, as well as her National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing by distance through Otago Polytechnic. Alicia started working for West Coast Vets in Greymouth as a Veterinary Nurse in 2015. Alicia has most recently obtained her New Zealand Diploma of Veterinary Nursing L6 through Otago Polytechnic by distance in 2018.

After spending time equine nursing overseas and in Matamata, Maria decided to settle back at home on the Coast near her family. She has been working with us since 2011. In the early years, you would have caught her on farm at any available opportunity, but now you will find her in the office keeping the rest of us in line and organized. Maria's 'spare time' is spent looking after her sheep flock or in the kitchen cooking up a storm for work morning teas or any family occasion. Those who venture into the clinic around New Years may have even been lucky enough to enjoy Maria's Oliebollen (Dutch doughnuts).

Tash is from South Westland and grew up with farming. Her first job after leaving school was at Hokitika Vet Centre some 20ish years ago, it was then that she completed her Vet Nursing Qualifications through Dunedin Polytechnic. She then moved into the hospitality industry where she owned & managed a cafe in Fox Glacier, for several years before returning to Hokitika.

Tash has recently taken a position in Farm Services at West Coast Vets and now lives on her lifestyle block with her husband and 2 young boys and a menagerie of animals, including Goose the dog, Stuart the cat, Buck the duck, Shout the horse, Sprinkles the goat plus chickens, sheep, cattle & fish. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family & animals enjoying the outdoors, gardening, walking, motorbike and horse riding.

Harold has been part of the veterinary business here on the Coast since 1997. Prior to that he worked for Telecom & Pgg Wrightson as well as doing some insurance work. He enjoys being part of a successful team and believes providing the very best customer service will always achieve the best positive outcomes. Now working 3 days a week more time is available to spend with his wife Mary and six grandchildren.

Tara moved with her family to Hokitika in 2014 from Darfield where she and her husband had owned and managed the Darfield Vet Centre for over a decade. Originating from Hawkes Bay Tara’s background prior to this was in Sales and Marketing where she worked as a key account manager for wine companies in both the North and South Islands. Her passions are ones she shares with her family – skiing, mountain biking and time together in the hills.

She loves seeing all the animals and clients every day.  Leanne has a young English Bull Terrier, Chap, who keeps her entertained, and when not working they spend as much time as possible with her grandsons.

It’s a dog’s life as they say and Jeff is in charge of the welcoming committee at the Hokitika clinic. It’s a big job, he is currently negotiating his salary to include whatever is in the pig scrap bucket in the kitchen, until then, he will accept attention, ear scratches and long walks on the beach.
